What Is Ham Theory?

Ham Theory is a free, interactive study companion for Australian amateur radio license exams. Each course includes lessons written in plain English, interactive quizzes with instant feedback, timed practice exams, formula reference sheets, and band allocation charts.

Which Course Should I Choose?

Foundation — if you're new to amateur radio and want to get your first license. Covers the basics: how radio works, operating procedures, safety, and regulations. After passing, you can transmit with up to 10 watts on most amateur bands.

Advanced — if you already hold a Standard license and want to upgrade, or if you're studying for the Advanced exam. Covers advanced electronics, transmitter/receiver design, propagation, antennas, EMC, digital modes, and more. Passing grants 400 watts and access to all amateur bands.

Not Sure Yet?

Start with Foundation — it's the natural starting point and will get you on air. You can always upgrade to Advanced later. Many operators enjoy amateur radio at Foundation level for years before upgrading.
